When it comes to Halfmoon Betta , many people do not understand what is a halfmoon bettas some know what is a Halfmoon betta but they keep on boasting that their delta betta is a Halfmoon betta. Not only in particular country but in every-where in the world specially the shop keepers or betta breeders who want to sell their fish without shame.

        Most of the informations in this article were obtained from Mr. Markus Gutzeit of Germany who wrote ‘The true story of Halfmoon’and distributed to members of Halfmoon Betta Club.         A true Halfmoon must have a caudal spread of180 degree not less and not more. A perfect Halfmoon must have the upper most and the lower most rays of the caudal straight and not curved. The branching should start at the very beginning of caudal peduncle.

        The story of halfmoon began in 1959 when Eduard Smidt Focke bred a pair of Thai betta and got some very wide caudal finnage which taday called Delta Betta.

        IBC (International Betta Congress) was formed by a group of betta breeders in 1967. Its main objective was to breed fishes that has broad and symmetrical finnage which can swim better than those with long fin.

        After almost 20 years of hard work, IBC breeders like Parris Jones, Peter Goettner and others have successfully bred a first betta that has wider caudal fin that we called them today Super-Delta betta.Their first appearance was rather round tail and lot of volume. Guy Delaval, a french breeder, imported those fishes into Franch and selected bred them for more angulage tail form.
